The Etrian Odyssey 3 [世界樹の迷宮Ⅲ 星海の来訪者] official website has been updated, with all character portraits now up for viewing. We’re happy to provide all these images (with transparent backgrounds) and hope you will put them to good use: whether it be for assembling your guild and party line-up, editing to create custom characters, or embellishing a desktop or even a website. Enjoy!

Furthermore, there are three new system videos which demonstrate the skill types and the use of limit skills (we reported on these in our previous post). The character customization screen has individual tabs differentiating between main and common skills, limit skills have their own submenu, and subclass skills appear in blue (versus main skills in green) in the battle menu. Director Komori has posted in the development blog, apologizing for the long silence. He comments on the subclasses, though he isn’t entirely clear on the limitations of the feature. Komori seems to say that the best use of the subclass involves augmenting the strengths of a character’s main class. The videos, however, suggest a huge range of possibilities: among others, there’s a Shinobi with healing skills, a Warrior with Beastking skills, and a Monk with guard skills. Make of it what you will!

Dang, just looked at the official site, and those are some awesome portraits. There’s not a single class that doesn’t look awesome!
Does this mean we’ll have a total of 24 classes to mix and match, or will the classes from EO1 and 2 not be returning?
Unfortunately, it’s just those 10 classes. The old classes aren’t returning – but the new subclass feature substantially increases the combinations you can make. :)
@Feather:
I’m a bit sad to see some of the old classes go (really liked the Protector), but it’s probably for the best. Hexer (Revenge) was beyond broken, and the transition from EO1 to EO2 left Troubadour a sobbing shell of his former glory. Same with Alchemist, sort of.
Rather than rebalance all the old classes AGAIN (and either nerf some too badly or introduce a new skill which is too broken) it’s probably best to just mix and match the current/new generation with the new limit system and subclasses.
Can’t wait for March. :D
(Also, could be me, but is that link for those portraits broken or what?)
Link was temporarilly broken, but it should be working just fine now
