As was expected following the latest Famitsu issue, the official Etrian Odyssey 3 website [世界樹の迷宮Ⅲ 星海の来訪者] now shows character portraits for the Princess/Prince, Phalanx, Pirate, and Monk classes.
The above video, at long last providing a look at the seafaring portion of this Etrian installment, can now be found in the System section. The oceans of this game set the stage for yet another adventure – while they do not compose a labyrinth, they contain many new gimmicks that will require constant vigilance from even experienced cartographers. Fishing is one of many new features that provides players with more items to collect for trade-in back at port. Furthermore, the new multiplayer feature (which allows up to five people to connect via the NDS wireless communication) will permit players to play alone or to band together in undertaking “Discovery Quests” and defeating additional creatures.
For more information on the other character classes that were discussed by director Komori in the latest blog post, please see here.
In today’s post on the Etrian Odyssey 3 [世界樹の迷宮Ⅲ 星海の来訪者] development blog, director Komori shows us the back cover of the outtake CD. This is the game’s pre-order bonus soundtrack and it has a limited availability, as fans of the previous games should already be aware. The CD features four battle themes and two piano versions of dungeon tunes.
HQ scans of the latest Famitsu spread have also surfaced – click to enlarge!
Famitsu’s site also shows more of the outtake CD, various screenshots, and character artwork. If those aren’t the characters you were hoping to see in clearer detail, keep your eyes on the official site since the flash-embedded character portraits should be added to relevant section soon.
W-O-E! The third installment of the Etrian series, 世界樹の迷宮Ⅲ 星海の来訪者, originally slated for release on March 4th of this year, has been pushed back to April 1st. This news was first announced by Atlus and later confirmed by director Komori in an apologetic development blog post. Prior to that, Komori thanked everyone for the e-mails he’d received giving suggestions on Etrian merchandise, though people opted to propose more standard items like mugs, custom DS styluses, and cell phone straps of characters and monsters. Time will tell! The official website’s music section has also been updated with two small clips of music that has already appeared in gameplay videos.
Still, there’s no need to despair! We can now have a look the cover art as well as other character portraits for the remaining first five classes: Princess/Prince, Phalanx, Pirate, and Monk! LQ images of the Famitsu spread are below the cut, with what also appears to be a cameo appearance by EO boss Cotrangl.
A new feature for Etrian Odyssey 3 [世界樹の迷宮Ⅲ 星海の来訪者] was revealed today in a post on the development blog by programmer HIRO. As shown in the video, it is now possible scroll through and equip items to your party with the stylus when they appear on the bottom screen of the DS while at the blacksmith. Furthermore, by using the X button to toggle “Other” you may now view all other members of your guild and equip items to them in the same way. The original controls also remain.
The Etrian Odyssey 3 Original Soundtrack has appeared, but for the moment just from this seller’s website, which indicates that it will retail at ¥3,465. Distributed by Geneon Universal Entertainment, this 4 disc set will become available on March 25th.
There’s a tad more media today for Etrian Odyssey’s new installment, 世界樹の迷宮III 星海の来訪者. Following the Shinobi-centric Famitsu article last week, the official website has been updated to show all four of its character portraits. A new system video is also up with yet another NPC appearing in the labyrinth!
The EO3 development blog sees another post by designer Yokomichi today, who takes us briefly through the title logo’s development process. Early on, there were three styles presented but the Art Nouveau theme prevailed, giving us the basis for the maze-jade, red-zeal-of-grail-seeking-kings and oceanic-blue hued titles that we have today.
For those who have been awaiting additional character images, the latest article from Famitsu magazine shows all the Shinobi! Image and more below the cut.
What you see above is a little interactive flash that allows you to compare the new Etrian Odyssey 3 [世界樹の迷宮Ⅲ 星海の来訪者] classes more easily. The radar graph for each shows:
PHY – Physical attack
ATT – Attribute attack (elemental and other special attacks)
DEF – Defense
SUP – Supportive/back-up capability
SPD – Speed
Information about the third installment of Etrian Odyssey [世界樹の迷宮Ⅲ 星海の来訪者] has been slow over the past week or so, but that’s to be expected. The good news: just two months remaining until its release!
The latest development blog post (January 4th) unveils the results of that voting competition that was held some time ago. Director Komori had encouraged readers to e-mail about which character class they’d like to see and know more about, and after 24 hours had to go through and figure out which e-mails could be counted as legitimate votes, since there was much confusion.
The lower tier fared badly; places 7 – 9 had only single vote differences between them and the counts aren’t even given because they’re so disheartening. The post mentions disappointment for the Farmer boy, a fondness for the pink-haired, female Ballista design (to be seen in a future issue), and discusses how close the race was between the Pirate and Shinobi and thanks everyone for their enthusiasm and participation. Evidently, the Shinobi would not have won had they not counted in votes for “ニーハイ”…
In the post from January 1st, Yokomichi tells us his first task of the year is to design the booklet for the EO3 soundtrack. He then talks about the graphic design of the game, noting the importance of keeping it in line with the previous two games of the series. The graphics and design members of the development team overhauled the interface and replaced the green hue with a brighter blue to better fit the fresh, oceanic theme. Previously, a staff member was each assigned to interface, backgrounds, and effects, but there are now additional members to aid with the pixel art and effects. Yokomichi is the only original member remaining, but does like to ask former art staff their opinions, too. The post ends with links to more wallpapers and a clip of the new credit roll music.
A short post from director Komori was also posted on December 31st, providing a small clip of his favorite tune that will appear somewhere in the game’s dungeons.
All the new wallpapers and music clips are available on the official website!
Finally! We’ve assembled all sprite sheets for both Etrian Odyssey and Etrian Odyssey 2: Heroes of Lagaard. From the first game all but the enemy sprites are by Barubary, who has graciously allowed us to package them with ours, thus completing the set.
Both archives contain: character art and battle portraits, the bestiary, dungeon artwork and banners, option screen backgrounds, town backgrounds, NPC’s, backgrounds pertaining to the story’s final boss, credit roll images, and miscellaneous other bits and pieces. We hope these prove useful to all fans of the series and encourage you to share with us if you do use them!
